The Si826x isolators are pin-compatible drop-in upgrades for popular optocoupled gate drivers. These devices are ideal for driving power MOSFETs and IGBTs used in various inverter and motor control applications. The Si826x isolated gate drivers use Silicon Laboratories' proprietary silicon isolation technology to support up to 5.0 kV RMS withstand voltage (according to UL1577) and 10kV surge protection (according to IEC60747). Compared to optocoupled gate drivers, this technology enables higher performance, reduced variation with temperature and aging, tighter part-to-part matching, and superior common-mode rejection. Although the input circuit mimics the characteristics of an LED, it requires less drive current and, therefore, is more efficient. In addition, the propagation delay time is independent of the input drive current, so the propagation time is always short, the cell-to-cell variation is tighter, and the input circuit design is more flexible. Therefore, the Si826x family has a longer lifetime and higher reliability than optocoupled gate drivers.
